When we set out to create the Smith 3D Trainer™, our goal wasn’t simply to reimagine the traditional Smith machine—it was to unlock new levels of versatility, efficiency and safety in strength training. As is said, timing is everything, and resistance training today is now widely considered the foundational modality in the gym for individuals of all backgrounds and experience levels.

Our mission, to fuse the self-spotting innovation of a Smith machine with the coveted freedom of movement created by free bar training—has now successfully enhanced the training experience for participants of all levels. In less than a year’s time, nearly 200 facilities have installed the GYM RAX S3D, with hundreds more on the way.

Addressing Operator Challenges

Beyond ensuring unparalleled user feel and flow when training with the S3D, we recognized that our customers—those that operate the very facilities we depend upon for our training regimen—face ongoing operational challenges as they dedicate greater space towards Olympic racks and lifting platforms. Space comes at a premium, but ensuring the safety of members, residents, and guests is an operator’s top priority. It can also be a difficult balancing act to maintain a welcoming environment for all, while managing the sound and vibration from earth-shattering weight drops and runaway barbells that can often overwhelm for others.

Facility managers consider equipment versatility, space, and durability when investing in strength training solutions. The inclusion of 3D Trainers establishes multi-functional equipment that supports a broad range of exercises, from squats and deadlifts to overhead presses and rows, all while maintaining a compact footprint that maximizes available space.

The opportunity to improve these critical facets on behalf of facilities head-on was our focus. For instance, we minimize the setup time for users to load weight plates and adjust their safety stops directly on the S3D’s patent-pending movement carriage itself. There is no removal of the bar to the floor, taking bulky safety catches off, and then all back on again required. This not only makes every lifting session more efficient for the user, but also streamlines facility traffic flow by reducing equipment wait times.

Creating a Broader Training Experience For Everyone

Understanding that traditional squat rack setups can be intimidating to many, another goal was to reduce barriers to participation in barbell-based training. The 3D Trainer serves as the ultimate bridge between machine and free weight movement. The S3D’s self-contained footprint helps operators optimize space, creating a controlled environment for the user, and ultimately delivering a better training experience.

Strength Training Made Safer and More Efficient

The foundational advancement of the S3D is to provide users with the confidence to push their limits without compromising their well-being. Efficiency is another key benefit. By reducing setup time between exercises, workouts can be completed with improved pace and flow.

Our Commitment to Innovation

Gym Rax training systems are designed to unlock the freedom of human movement, improving both training efficacy and engagement for a broader range of fitness enthusiasts.

We believe that our innovations must strive serve the needs of both users and facility operators of all types.
